Reading
Every child leaves us reading confidently in both English and Afrikaans, a real head start for Grade 1.
Afrikaans
Afrikaans is a core part of our curriculum, so our graduates leave genuinely bilingual, speaking and reading in two languages.
Writing
Letter formation, simple sentences and the first proud pages of writing.
Maths
Confident number work, including adding and subtracting up to 100, plus basic time and money concepts.
Group projects
Collaborative themed projects: research, build, present.
Independence
Self-management: lunchbox, water bottle, jersey, listening to instructions.
Graduation
An end-of-year graduation celebration to send our biggest kids off properly.

Music, rhythm and movement classes that get little ones singing, clapping and moving.

Soccer Starz
Introductory soccer coaching, with footwork, teamwork and lots of giggles on the field.

Where can my child do Grade R in Olivedale, Randburg?
At Toddies in Olivedale, Randburg. Our Owl Class (the School Ready room) is our Grade R graduating class, the final reception year before big school, usually for children around 5 to 6 years old. Led by Teacher Lucida, it welcomes families from Olivedale, Northriding, Bromhof, Boskruin, Jukskei Park, Randpark Ridge, Fourways and Waterford.
Will Grade R at Toddies get my child ready for Grade 1?
Yes. Owl Class graduates leave able to read and write in both English and Afrikaans and do maths, including adding and subtracting up to 100. It’s a real head start for Grade 1, whichever primary school your family in Olivedale or Randburg is heading to.
Is Grade R compulsory in South Africa?
Grade R is the reception year before Grade 1 and is now recognised as a compulsory part of formal schooling in South Africa, so it’s an important foundation year. At Toddies our Grade R is led by Teacher Lucida, with calm, clear structure and carefully planned, fun-but-focused lessons here in Olivedale.
